This is a vintage Wedgwood commemorative plate in blue and white transferware, honoring Brigadier General Anthony Wayne, a hero of the American Revolution. The plate is 10 3/8" wide. There is an engraving of the general in the center and a floral and leaf border around the rim. There are three backstamps in blue on the reverse side. The first reads "Commemorating General Anthony Wayne, for whom Fort Wayne, Indiana was named on October 22, 1794. Issued by Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution 1956 Engraved from the design of Leona Loy." The next mark is the standard Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston Made in England mark. The third is a circle that reads "Engraved by the Wedgwood Studios." The plate is in excellent condition with no damage.
