This is an antique Edwardian romantic style German Silver large locket pendant. The front of the pendant features a lovely repousse lady facing left with an elaborate curled hair style. The back is engraved with flowers and a laurel band around the rim. The back also has an open oval in the center that could be engraved with a monogram or initials. It opens with a push down clasp at the top, and reveals two coin holders. One is for American nickels, the other is for American dimes. Each will hold three coins. German Silver is a name for nickel silver, a copper and nickel alloy that does not contain any actual silver. The locket is marked German Silver. I believe it is plated, there is some wear to the top metal layer just to the left of the lady's nose. The locket is from around 1900. Other than the one spot of missing plating, it is in great condition. It is 2 3/4" from the top of the push clasp to the hinge at the base, and 1 3/4" wide, with a weight of 51g. MBR.
