Vernon Kilns Indianapolis, Indiana Blue Transferware Souvenir Plate Crossroads of America
This is a 1950s pottery Vernon Kilns souvenir plate in blue transferware. It is a souvenir of Indianapolis, Indiana, also known as the Circle City. The plate features the Soldiers & Sailors monument at Monument Circle in downtown Indy (actually, the geographic center of the city and state), as well as images of the World War monument, the Speedway, the Capitol building, and a pair of old mansions. One of the homes is the Benjamin Harrison home, the other is the James Whitcomb Riley home The plate is 10 1/2" wide. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The back is marked in blue with the image of a clock and the words "The Ayres Clock Landmark at the 'Crossroads of America' Indianapolis, Indiana State Capital established 1820 Soldiers and Sailors Monument, erected 1887-1901 Indianapolis Speedway, Home of 500 Mile Race, opened 1909 Indiana World War Memorial, dedicated by General John Pershing, July 4, 1927 Home of Benjamin Harrison, 23rd President of the United States Home of James Whitcomb Riley, preserved as a shrine to the Hoosier poet Indiana State House, completed 1888 Made exclusively for L.S.
