This is a fantastic antique 925 sterling silver piece. A wonderful sugar spoon featuring some mysterious symbolism, leading us to believe this is a Masonic or religious piece. Our best guess is that this piece was crafted for a member of the Theosophical Society. The handle features a scrolling serpent eating a fly, like an Ouroboros, the snake eating represents infinity or wholeness. At the base of the handle are two overlapping Greek letters, the Greek letters along with the Ouroboros are two common symbols used by the society.
The Theosophical Society, founded in 1875 by Helena Blavatsky, is an occult movement based on the ideals of Hindu thought and culture. An openness to spirituality and all religious and is still a functioning society today with thousands of followers throughout the world.
