I absolutely love red silk velvet and that is what drew me to this beautiful piece. I would imagine it was originally used in a Church as it is made from fabrics that were used in Ecclesiastical pieces. The runner is made from gold brocade fabric and edged with red silk velvet and gold metallic trim, very reminiscent of a Priests vestment. The runner dates to the 19th century and in good antique condition aside from a small hole to the red velvet and some age related marks and wear to the gold brocade and backing cotton. It is absolutely stunning and wonderful for a Christmas table. The piece measures 66 inches in length and 22 inches wide.
