This is an exquisite silk boudoir box dating to around 1900. The box is French and would have been for a ladies boudoir, perhaps to keep love letters in. The piece is hand painted with a picture of a lady and a small cherub. There is a little fading to the painting and there is some splitting to the silk covering on the top which I have photographed. The edges of the box are gathered silk finished with a piped trim. The box originally would have had a key but sadly this is missing. There are some foxing marks that are purely age related to the interior of the box. Having said this it is still a beautiful piece. The box stands on four little wooden bun feet. It measures 14 inches at the widest point by 11 inches depth and height of 4 inches. A gorgeous French box for the collector.
