This is a beautiful original Edwardian wedding trousseau. There are lots of pieces to this ensemble and I will go through them one by one. There are more photographs but I am limited on here as to how many I can upload so please do contact me for further pictures should you require them. This is a beautiful raw silk wedding dress in pink belonging to Mary Woodruff who married on the 5th of May 1909 in Marion, Ohio. The dress was originally long sleeved and high necked but obviously being a thrifty bride she had it altered so she could get more use out of it which she states in a hand written note. 1. The dress is in beautiful original antique condition and has obviously been well looked after and stored properly. It is pink raw silk and decorated with silk knots down the sides and pink silk covered buttons. The neckline is lace and framed either side with trim. There is also a silk frill either side. The back of the dress sweeps down to the floor and is extremely elegant. The only issues I can detect is a little damage to the silk frill and one of the hook and eye closures is missing at the very top of the neck. 2. The cotton and lace petticoat is also in good antique condition having been stored properly over the years. It has a little age related marking but nothing too terrible. 3. The original bloomers are a delight to behold and still have their original pink ribbon through the legs, again they are in very good antique condition. 4. The original silk black shoes have their metal buckles still and are also in very good condition. Obviously this lady chose colours that meant she wear them after her wedding..how sensible! 5. The original garter is also included. 6. There are the original sleeves in very good condition and also the original lace high neck which is fragile and does have some damage. 7. Two silk flowers with metallic tassels, I am not sure which part of the dress these were from but match in colour. 8. There is also spare trim and fabric included. 9. The provenance includes information about the bride and her husband and two hand written notes from her. There are also her and her husbands place cards with their married name on them that came from the wedding reception. There is also a Valentine card that is hand painted.
This is an absolutely delightful trousseau and is in very good antique condition. I was absolutely thrilled to find this collection. it would be perfect for a collector or museum.
