Victor Heinrich Seifert was born in Vienna in 1870 and was affluent and productive sculptor working in Germany until his death in Berlin, 1953. A pupil of d’E. Herter, L. Manzel and P. Breuer, he was a sculptor of statues, monuments and military subjects. This famous work is one of his most successful subjects, a simply magnetic work of art executed in bronze - the figure of this young woman is graceful and dignified, softly holding the gilt bowl of water while holding her lips softly to the brim for a sip. She is a statement of naturalism, chaste in demeanor, her diffident pose and gentle aspect show an inner strength and confidence. A cast of this sculpture is represented in the extensive collection of his works at the Museum of Leipzig in Germany.

Around the base is the signature of Seifert as well as the incised signature of the Gladenbeck foundry; the AKT and absence of "Sohn" in the inscription place this cast at the turn of the century. It is in remarkable condition, well preserved with light patina wear throughout, exquisitely detailed and of incredible quality. Our gallery has carried this model by Seifert numerous times, but this edition is particularly rare and desirable for its striking size.

Measurements: 26 1/4” H (including base) x 8” W x 11 3/8” D

Condition Report: Fine original patina. Light wear to edges and relief. In overall excellent presentation ready condition.
