Born in München in 1879, Fritz Müller Schwaben studied in Strasbourg at the School of Applied Arts at the Academy of München. His work was widely sought after, particularly his Bavarian landscapes which were painted in his heavy impasto with a distinctly impressionistic eye. The present landscape was retailed originally by C. Blecken, the original brass label from their gallery retained and bagged with the work - it reads "C. Blecken - Goldleister, Rahmen, Fabrik, Rahmen, Vergolderei - Munchen". Executed in oil on canvas, the picture captures a delightful summer landscape with three little wooden structures on a lake shore. It is a brilliant work, beautifully executed with a dramatic and bold hand and vivid colors; it remains well preserved on its original lining and no observed restorations.
