The refreshingly organic interpretation of the Rococo motif found in this finely crafted mirror is unusually striking. It has a degree of restraint where the undulating shape allows the chaotic display of waterleaves that furl and climb the frame to truly define the piece. A handsome rocaille treatment along the entire crest rail with a ribbed shell-inspired edging culminates in a pierced central motif with outflowing flowers and foliage over a furl of acanthus. The back of the frame has custom iron brackets that help lock the delicate frame together, resulting in a permanency that is difficult to achieve with a simple tenon-mortise; this is likely the reason why no joint separations have formed in the corners and the frame remains in nearly pristine condition.
