EGYPTIAN REVIVAL STYLE ROSEWOOD AND LEATHER WRITING DESK
Baker, United States | with original silver plaque inside drawer | late 20th/early 21st century
Item # 407ENV09Q

A lovely example of Baker's Egyptian Revival writing desk modeled after the Regency period, it seems to have been modeled after the designs of George Smith in the early 19th century with the powerful Lion mask monopodia raising the structure. These are ebonized with parcel gilding highlights. The body of the desk is a vibrant and chaotic rosewood, the front housing three dovetailed drawers and the top with a gilt-tooled leather writing surface with rounded re-entrant corners.

Note, we have priced the desk very attractively compared to other examples available because of the blemishes to the leather - and while you could certainly have the leather top replaced by a craftsman, there is a certain "permission" that comes from a worn leather surface that allows you to be a bit more carefree with it and actively work on the desk without concern.

Measurements: 30 1/8" H x 36" D x 66" W

Condition Report:
Leather is in "fair" condition with numerous flaws and old attempts to recolor losses: circular marks, many lines of chattering along the leather, impressions, scars, etc. Desk is otherwise in very good condition. One brass ring replaced. A very nice presentation.
