Large glazed stoneware planter or centerpiece designed by Aloys Hermann & Albert Hortel and made by Gres de A. Cytere at Rambervillers. These creators are associated with the Ecole de Nancy, the Art Nouveau movement that included Louis Majorelle, Emile Galle, Jacques Gruber and other leading lights of the Art Nouveau movement in France. This organic form with lobed handles and 'hammered' surface within recessed panels won an award at a 1906 competition organized by the Ecole de Nancy. Large and very heavy it measures 17" wide by 7.5" deep by 7.5" high. In overall excellent condition with a couple of areas of damage: chip to glaze at the tip of one point on the handle; a small chip just above the impressed signature on the side & a small burst glaze bubble on the bottom edge - all of which are shown in the photos.
