Beautiful large and impressive chrome trophy on a heavy black base with figural globe and ice boat. This is the 1948 T E Mead Trophy presented by the Fox Lake ILL Ice Yacht Club. There are 6 additional plaques on the base, three are engraved with the winners from 1948-1950 and three are blank. Base with 11" diameter and it's 9" tall and weighs over 8 lbs. Condition is very fine with no noted defects or damage. Ted Mead, for whom the trophy was named, was the designer and builder of the famous Mead iceboats, many of which are on the ice today. He invented the two seater type called a skeeter. The winner of the trophy in 1948 & 1949 was J.D. Graff a well known ice boat competitor in the 1940s. Great piece for the collector or someone interested in unique nautical decor.
