Untitled abstract watercolor by New Mexico modernist Janet Lippincott (1918-2007). Signed and dated 1963, the work in muted tones of browns and grays with stark black details is found in its original wood frame in untouched original condition. Sight size is 24.5" by 18.5" framed out to 32" x 26". Condition is fine with a slight bulge to the paper upper left as shown in the photo. It shouldn't present any difficulty in being flattened if and when the mat is replaced. Ms. Lippincott was a prolific artist with a long career and the lists of her museum exhibitions, juried exhibitions, honors and awards and publications is well over 3 pages long. She's included in Notable Americans 1976-1977; Artist USA 1970-72,; Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in the Arts, etc. She received the 2002 New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts and the 2003 Arts Achievement Award from the NM committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Wash.DC. She studied with the Emil Bisttram School in Taos, NM; NY Student league & San Francisco Art Institute. Museum collections include: Denver Museum of Fine Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; Santa Barbara Museum of Art; Utah Museum of Fine Arts, etc. Her works are highly sought after by collectors of mid-century paintings and interior design. This piece was deaccessioned from an Illinois corporate collection a few years ago.
