Very unusual Japanese pottery bowl with organic amorphous form and carved calligraphic decoration. The 'tortured' form is irregularly crimped & folded with purposely uneven inner surface. Possibly from Sumida as suggested by the unglaze foot. Signed with chop as shown. In fine condition with all over crazing to the inside, but no chips, cracks or other damage. Measures approx 7" by 7 3/4" by 2 1/2" at the highest point.
