Rare original sepia photograph taken by, printed by and signed by Enos A. Mills "The Father of Rocky Mountain National Park." He was also an author, photographer, nature guide, innkeeper, lecturer, and adventurer. As the driving force behind the creation of Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, Mills is remembered as Colorado’s premier conservationist. Mills (1870-1922) published over a dozen books on the Rockies and western wildlife and illustrated them with his own photographs. A very similar photo to the one being offered is shown illustrating the reprint of his 1911 title "The Spell of the Rockies" in one of the photos above, and this photo may have been used to illustrate another title. The format (shape) and the way the landscape is being framed by a tree at the left are identical to this photo. This photo measures 19" by 11 1/4" and is signed in ink lower right and also bears his faint studio stamp on the back as shown. His original photos rarely come up for sale and his views of the Rockies are highly prized. Near mint condition: no damage, fading, wear, tears, etc. Minimal borders. Trimmed a bit irregularly at the top but just grazing the image not cutting into it.
