Interesting mixed media painting entitled "Water Tower in Union Station R.R. Yards, St. Louis" signed and dated 1930 by Leland E. Hammel (1909-1985). Utilizing watercolor and black & red chalk, the artist captures a moody portrait of a gritty railroad yard scene. Signed at the top and in the bottom right and titled on the back of the board. The painting measures 8 1/2" by 5 3/4" mounted on a 12 1/2" by 9 3/4" board. The painting in fine condition, the board with tack holes and wear. Hammel is included in the list of St. Louis area artists that the St Louis Public Library has of information in its artist files and was the subject of an exhibition at the Missouri Historical Society in 1982. His work was also previously offered by the Richard Norton Gallery in Chicago.
