Recently purchased from the Barrington IL estate of a friend of the artist Peter Darro are these 2 identically framed original paintings. Peter Darro (1917-1997) well known and well listed artist grew up in Chicago and studied there at the American Academy of Art. He began working as an illustrator known for his girlie art and mostly at his true love: wildlife painting. His intense interest in American history influenced many of his works, among which the portrait of Lincoln and paintings of pioneers migrating west have been widely reproduced. As a portrait painter, his ability to transmit the essential character of his subject won him national fame. He painted Senator Everett M. Dirksen in his chambers in Washington, D.C. The portrait, as well as the portrait of Mrs. Dirksen, now hangs in the Dirksen Memorial Library. His portrait of author Rachel Carson hangs in the National Wildlife Hall of Fame. But his acclaim in the field of wildlife art led to the International Wildlife Foundation commissions for the 1981 and 1982 Game Conservation Stamp Prints. He was also a member of the National Society of Animal Artists, an eminent group of the finest wildlife artists in the United States and Canada, and the Society of North American Artists. His work appeared in numerous wildlife & nature magazines and was widely collected by individuals and in corporate collections and in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History & the National Wildlife Federation among others. These 2 paintings on canvas are in perfect condition. The painting of the Elk (sight size 8.5" by 11.5", framed out to 12.5" by 15.5") is signed (c) Peter Darro SAA.
