Original circa 1720 hand colored map of the Franconia region of Germany by Johann Baptist Homann, Nuremberg. Titled: "Circuli Franconiae Pars Occidentalins, exhibens fimul integrum fere Electoratum Moguntinum...". Johann Batist Homann (1664-1724), a German geographer and cartographer located in Nuremberg. Publishing his first atlas in 1707 resulted in his election to the Prussian Academy of Sciences and he was appointed Geographer to the Emperor in 1715. n 1716, Homann published his masterpiece "Grosser Atlas ueber die ganze Welt" (Grand Atlas of all the World). Copper plate engraving with apparently original color dates to circa 1720. It measures (sheet size) 25" by 20.75"; (image) 22" by 19". Condition is good with some mild foxing in the margins, short edge tears, and old repairs to the center fold & edges as visible on the view of the back.
