Wonderful Engraved crystal vase shows a woman on shore waving farewell to a departing sailing ship. The cleverly designed piece by the noted Swedish copper wheel engraver Max Kjellander pictures the woman, standing on a rocky shore looking down on the ship sailing away with the woman engraved on the front of the vase while the ship is cut into the back side. Thus giving the piece a depth and perspective it wouldn't have if all was done on one surface. He was a designer at Kosta from 1881-1925 and later opened his own studio, purchasing blanks from Kosta & Orrefors and also working as a freelance engraver. This piece is on a very heavy, thick walled blank and is signed on the bottom by hand: Kjellander 489-186. Probably dates to the 1940sor 50s. Stands 6.25" high by 4.25" wide by 3" deep. Mint condition.
