Fine antique chromolithograph print from "Nests & Eggs of Birds of the United States" by Thomas Gentry. Gentry was a member of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, and authored several other books, including "Life Histories of Birds of Eastern Pennsylvania" and "The House Sparrow". Published in 1882 in Philadelphia, the plates were done by artist Edwin Sheppard, who has been termed "the best ornithological artist in America." The print is nicely framed and double matted with a cutout for the title. The descriptive sheets from the book for this image are contained in a sleeve on the back of the frame. In overall excellent condition with a few faint spots of foxing near the top right corner of the image. Vintage frame is in near mint condition. Overall framed size is 15 3/8" by 12 3/8". Nice period print that's ready to hang.
