Original color lithograph Christmas card by listed Chicago artist Rowena Fry (1892-1990) entitled "Chicago Water Tower i Winter." This is a smaller version of this image that was issued as a full sized print. Signed in pencil on the front and inscribed by the artist inside, the piece which measures 5 1/8" by 6 1/2" when closed, is in mint condition. Rowena Fry was born in Athens, Alabama, and studied at the Watkins Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. She came to Chicago in the late 1920s and studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Hubert Ropp School of Art. Fry participated in the Works Progress Administration Fine Art Project in painting, 1938-39, producing murals at Abbott Laboratories, Oscar Meyer Company, and American Mareitta Paint Company, as well as in Lake Forest. Fry taught painting and serigraphy from her studio for many years and art classes at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital, 1942-46. She shared a studio apartment with artist Natalie Henry at the Tree Studios building in Chicago from 1948 until the 1980s. She was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists and exhibited frequently in the Art Institute of Chicago's annual shows in the 1930s & 40s.
