We are pleased to offer for sale a one of a kind RARE outstanding table lamp. Whale Oil Lamp / Oil Lamp / Kerosene Lamp. You are not going to find another one like this. It was purchased at an estate sale in New Bedford, MA. Enameled opaline glass.
Made by the Boston Sandwich Glass Company of Sandwich, MA. between 1870-1887.
ONLY ONE OF THESE LAMPS HAS EVER BEEN FOUND.
For reference refer to "A Guide to Sandwich Glass - Cut Ware, A General Assortment and Bottles" by Barlow and Kaiser. Plate # 5235. I have attached a photo from the reference book.
Do not confuse this with the similar lamps that were made in France.
This part of the lamp is hollow. The brass fitting on it was used to pour common glass sand into the base. This was done in order to stabilize it and add weight to the base so that it could support the kerosene well and then the shade. There is only one complete lamp known to exist and it is in the Boston Sandwich Museum.
Hand blown into a mold. Rough pontil. Gorgeous floral pattern. Hand painted.
This work of art measures 12" tall Including the brass fitting. The lamp itself is 10 1/2" tall. The base is 6" wide.
A stunning work of art that would make a great display.
It is in excellent antique condition. Any white in the photos is from my camera flash. Remember this is an antique that was used. Please examine the photos very carefully to add to my description.
