This listing is for a beautiful Victorian Kerosene Lamp / Oil Lamp / Whale Oil. circa 1870’s. This lamp was purchased this past summer at an estate sale in Barnstable, MA. This is a small town neighboring Sandwich, MA. The family had always lived in Barnstable.
This gem was made by the Boston Sandwich Glass Factory of Sandwich, MA. The hand painted scene shows a Heron / Crane / Stork and it continues around the stem. The pigment on the opaline glass was always painted very thin. No white paint was used. The opaline glass was left untouched where white paint was needed. This was a characteristic of a quality lamp. The background is a beautiful pale robin's egg blue. The base is cast iron and bronze. The globe is EAPG - Early American Pattern Glass.
THE GLOBE IS A RARE ONE. It has a Coastal Theme. Each picture is different. See my photos. One picture is a scene inside of a circle showing the ocean with beach glass and seagulls. You have flowers and a butterfly.
Measures 12" tall to the top. The globe is 5 1/2" wide. The base measures 4 7/8" wide.
The painting is in excellent condition. It is something you will add to your collection as a beautiful example of a Victorian lamp. There are two hairlines on the backside. I have a photo where I circled the area. Any white in the photos is from my camera flash. Remember this is an antique item that was used. The base shows its expected wear. Please examine the photos very carefully to add to my description. Ask all needed questions before purchase.
