This listing is for a - Japanese Moriage Gilded Satsuma Hand Painted Elephant Teapot Tea Kettle.
It is hard to find one of these that comes with a mahout. A mahout is the person who drives an elephant. The word mahout comes from the Hindi language.
Enameling is as bright and vibrant as the day this was made.
Marked "Made in Japan". This mark dates this teapot between 1921-1946. The color does not help date a mark. Red, green and black were used most years. There is no explanation for when a color was used.
Measures 7 1/4" from the trunk to the tail. 6 1/2" tall to the top of the cover. 4" wide from ear to ear.
NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR REPAIRS.
It is in excellent vintage condition. Any white in the photos is from my camera flash. As with all vintage items, you will see signs of use. Please examine the photos very carefully to add to my description. Ask all needed questions before purchase.
