This listing is for a stunning RARE example of a Murano Art Glass Vase. A truly remarkable piece. It was made in their Ghiaccio glass technique. It is also called Ice Glass or Crackle Glass. This name comes from the Italian word for ice. This glass looks cracked on its entire surface. This effect is obtained by immersing a still hot glass object into cold water and then covering the crackles with another layer of glass. It was very popular from the 16th to the 18th centuries. This results in a finely-crackled glass surface similar to crocked ice. It is not signed. Italy is one of those rare countries that did not require a piece to be marked by the maker. This item most likely would have had a label.
The outstanding appearance and coloring of Murano glass is achieved by adding real gold or silver foil to the glass mixture. You can see the shimmer of gold in my photos of this vase. You can see this clearly if you look closely at the photo that shows a close-up of the foot.
GORGEOUS!!
This vase dates from c.1940.
Hand blown. Rough pontil
It is a red raspberry color. This is a rare color for Murano. The glass should seem to look like it glows from within.
It measures 9 1/4" tall, The width is 5 3/8" x 1 3/4". Very unusual narrow shape.
This work of art would be a fabulous addition to your collection.
The condition is excellent. As with all vintage glass, you will see signs of use. They are a few very very tiny pin pricks. Please examine the photos very carefully to add to my description. Ask all needed questions before purchasing.
