There is something so elegant and flamboyant about a well designed dome ring. This Brutalist/Mid Century example is nothing short of a masterpiece. I bought it from a wonderful woman who has owned it since the 1960s and says "It was the ring I wore when it was time for a cocktail." She now jets back and forth between her home in Palm Springs and Washington DC. Dare I say that this ring has the aura of true glamour?
The diagonally set pearls and garnets are held in place by very primitive, textured Brutalist style prongs that give the ring an edgy yet rich look. There are 22 round pyrope garnets, deep red gems about 2mm in diameter, weighing an estimated 1.32 carats. They are set with those organic looking prongs and form rows of red and gold between the 21 two to three mm cream colored pearls. The face of the ring measures 16mm north to south and has a medium high dome.
The setting is crafted of 14K yellow gold and the shoulders taper from 6mm to 2mm at the back of the band. This is a wonderfully crafted heavy duty setting.
Condition is very good. A few of the pearls turn a bit in their setting but all are secure. This ring ash been resized at some point-- karat marks have been lost-- but it was skillfully done and certainly could be again. Current size is a 6.5 but it will likely fit up to a 6.75 due to the design. It can go up to an 8.5 or down to a 5.5 for $36. Convo me for a quote outside this range. It weighs 8.8 grams.
