A superb antique fraternity ring in sterling silver for Phi Gamma Delta. This antique ring is a size 8.5 and has a wonderful arts and crafts style to it. This ring would make a terrific surprise for your Phi Gam alum!
The setting has a hammered look to the sterling silver setting it is a gorgeous setting and has a nice weight to it. This ring has impressive weight of 11.4 grams including the stone. The ring is in good estate condition for its 100 years + age. I only wish my pics of this were better. I took about 25 pics but the sterling was so darn bright it was difficult to shoot.
The ring has a highly polished piece of black onyx measuring 14mm tall by 11mm wide and a 2.5mm depth. The onxy has a 2.55 carat weight. It is in EXCELLENT condition. Attached to the onyx is the Fraternal Crest in sterling silver with white and royal blue/purple enamel. The enameling shows signs of light wear from age. You can still identify the colors stars, owl and crest easily. The colors are not as bright as they once were. You can tell by the white enameling that this is early enamel work.
We noted by doing some research that the Fiji crest uses gold and purple and this is clearly white and a royal purple and there is a good chance this might be a Pi Mu Chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta. The colors are a match for that chapter which was founded in 1848 at Jefferson College.
We did a hand polishing of the ring and steamed the stone. The sterling silver is bright and clean. A small amount of patina inside the band. The ring is marked STERLING inside the band for Silver purity. The ring has been safely tested and is guaranteed to be sterling silver.
