This ethereal antique cross is formed by delicate 10 karat gold wires that grasp turquoise cabochons and mother of pearl disks. Dating from around 1900, the design of this piece could be considered transitional, with elements of Arts and Crafts design in the bezel-set mother of pearl, combined with the delicacy of Edwardian jewelry. Despite its delicacy, this piece has a lot of presence because it of its size.
The piece is constructed of unmarked, but acid tested gold that tests as slightly higher than 10 karat. It appears to be constructed of rose gold that was plated with a brighter yellow gold; a century of wear has caused some of the plating to be worn, resulting in a soft shade of gold is a soft that is somewhere between yellow and rose gold; it comes with a newer 14 karat gold chain.
SIZE: 1-7/8" long (including bail) x 1" wide. Chain is 15" long
MARKS: none on the pendant. The spring ring on the chain is marked "14k"
AGE: circa 1900
CONDITION: this piece is in very good condition with wear consistent with age including small scuffs and some minor nibbles to the edges of the bezels that are visible under magnification. And, as mentioned above, some of the yellow gold plating has worn off.
