Flowers and foliage embroidered in metallic threads cover the surface of this sublime purse. Cornflower blue, dusty rose, soft green, turquoise blue, brown, and yellow threads are wound with gold and copper to create a shimmering play of color. In some cases the same shade of thread is wound with gold and copper to create two subtly different shades of embroidery. Over time the metallic threads have oxidized to create a rich patina (the original brighter shades can be seen hidden in the folds of the hinges where the thread's exposure to air has been limited).
The gold-plated frame has an embossed geometric foliate pattern which has also developed a lovely patina.
The purse is lined in pinkish/brown silk crepe which is trimmed with silk ribbonwork flowers. With its intact lining and very good condition this purse is suitable for special-occasion wear as well as being a beautiful addition to a purse collection.
