Wearable Wealth
A regal Victorian-Edwardian solitaire diamond men's ring, in 14Kt gold; designed by the Kheblnikov jewelry firm, Moscow, Russia, circa 1890-1910.
This superb piece has been expertly crafted out of 14 karat rose gold and been prong set with a solitaire round old European cut diamond totaling, approximately, 1.20 carats. The gem has very good color (E) and clarity (VS2).
The gent's ring is in excellent antique condition showing expected signs of wear. It weighs, approximately, 12.35 grams and is US ring size 12 (UK ring size X 1/2). The face of the ring measures 0.39 inches (1 cm) tall by 0.63 inches (1.6 cm) wide across the splits. It bears the Moscow city mark, the Imperial warrant mark, the Kheblnikov firm stamp, and 56 (56 Zolotnik) for 14K, (confirmed with testing).
Ivan Khlebnikov was one of the most prestigious Russian jewelers of the 19th century. Khlebnikov received several commissions from the Imperial family and in 1872 he was appointed official purveyor of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich. His artworks were displayed in several International Exhibitions, such as the one in Vienna in 1873 where he won two medals. His firm’s popularity grew and Khlebnikov was appointed a royal warrant by the sovereigns of Denmark, Netherlands, Serbia, and Montenegro. In 1879 he was awarded the title of official supplier to the Imperial court of Russia. At Ivan’s death in 1881, his sons took over the business, employed more craftsmen, and expanded the company buying Sazikov factories and shops. The company was nationalized in 1918, with the outbreak of the Russian Revolution.
