Lovely elegant pink ruffled glass "Bride's Basket" with unmarked silverplated handled container. This beautiful glass basket is pink on white cased glass with clear glass ruffles around the edges and is handpainted with roses and forget-me-nots. These bridal baskets were originally sold as fruit or berry bowls but because of their popularity as wedding gifts during the Victorian era, the term "Bride's Baskets" has become more commonly used. Art glass of this period was rarely marked although the bowls were all hand blown with crimped or fluted edges and hand painted with detailed decorations. This glass basket is 10" wide by 4" high, and the silverplated container is 12.25" wide at its base and 11.50" high. There are no chips on the glass basket. The silverplated container is missing a small piece on one side of the handle (see photographs). Because of the fragile nature of this item, postage may not be exactly as stated due to wrapping and insurance requirements.
