The original owner of this bear was born in Iowa in 1913. The bear has sparse mohair fur with some small areas worn. The nose is made of brown twill fabric. The nose looks like it was molded a little bit lopsided, gives his expression character. The bear was closed in the back and has a slight humpback. Fabric seems strong and clean. Excelsior stuffing was visible through worn foot and hand pads, so at one point the original pads were covered with wool felt but I was told by the person I bought it from that what is left of the original pads are still underneath. The eyes have been replaced with leather shoe buttons - I believe the eyes were originally just black stitching. Neck joint rotates, as do both hip joints and one arm joint. The bear's left arm joint works, but fabric at the top of the hardboard disk was ripped so the outer fabric edges were stabilized with a whip stitch and then ladder stitched to the bear body. So this arm will not move without ripping the stitching. Priced accordingly. He is a sweet bear, approximately 19" tall.
