Up for sale is a superb Capodimonte of Italy porcelain lidded stein with nobleman on horseback being attacked by and hunting lions. There is a female lion attempting to carry her baby to safety. The lid has a seated lion surrounded by a laurel wreath and berries. Even the handle of the mug has a face molded into it. The metal hinge is shaped like an eagle. The detail on this piece is amazing. The raised figures are polychrome enameled.
The base of the stein is in very fine condition and is marked with the capodimonte mark. The lid of the stein has been broken from the hinge and it has been reglued. This piece would benefit from a professional repair and is priced accordingly. Considering the age of this piece being from the 1800s it has survived quite well. The base without the lid is about 4 1/4" high, with the lid and lion on top it reaches about 6 1/2" high.
