Up for sale is Steiff's standing brown, black and tan Okapi. He is made from a velvet type material with detailed striping on the legs. He has a black mohair mane, felt ears and a thick corded tail.
This Okapi is in excellent condition. His colors are not faded and he appears to have been unplayed with. He has the original Steiff button, yellow ear tag, and his chest tag. Note that the chest tag is attached by a stick pin but is the original tag.
I had to look this animal up because I thought it was a giraffe. I found that the okapi is a giraffid artiodactyl mammal native to the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa. Although the okapi bears striped markings reminiscent of zebras, it is most closely related to the giraffe.
See my other listings for more Steiff animals - I will be happy to combine shipping costs on your purchases. The last picture shows some of the Steiff that has been or will be listed.
