ELEGANT GLASS OF THE DEPRESSION ERA
Fostoria Glass Company introduced the Versailles #278 plate etching in 1928. Fostoria called this form a sweetmeat bowl. It has a decagon shape with bow handles, measures 6.5" in bowl diameters and 7.5" from handle to handle, and stands 1.5" high.
The green color glows brilliantly under black light due to the presence of uranium oxide. Some would consider this vaseline glass but that term is usually reserved for yellow glass that glows green under black light.
Vintage glass may show characteristics of age, including base wear, bubbles, pattern irregularities, straw marks or mold marks. While free of chips, cracks or repairs, pieces may show signs of gentle use.
