Lately, this has become my favorite gemstone. I just love this beautiful and just right sized ametrine ring set in 14kt yellow gold. The ametrine is perfect to wear everyday but it is big enough to serve as a small sized cocktail dinner ring if you are so inclined. Ametrine is the combination of amethyst and citrine.
This ring features a wonderful prong set ametrine in a medium saturated color combination of purple and golden yellow. It is a step cut emerald shape stone measuring 16mm long by 12mm wide by approximately 6mm deep (measured within the setting). This calculates to approximately 12 carats of ametrine. This ring sits up a little high at 10mm high. Gram weight is 9.7 grams 14kt gold. Ring size is about 8.25 and can be re-sized up or down.
The shank is nice and thick and thinly tapers to the back. The wider area of shank measures 10mm and ends in 3mm in the back. Along the shoulders is a beaded design of 5 beads that are graduated in size. I interpret this design as etruscan-like or even contemporary. Overall condition is very good previously worn estate, circa 1970-1990.
Ametrine is a very interesting stone and one I am just learning about. According to several online gemstone study sites, it is a combination of amethyst and citrine and that is where it gets its name. It is usually transparent and is an interesting mixture of the golden yellow color of Citrine blended with the lovely purple color of Amethyst. Ametrine material can be found but is less common than amethyst and citrine. Main sources come from South America, Brazil, Uruguay and Bolivia. People who study the energies of quartz and gemstones say that ametrine combines the harmonious blend of energy from both amethyst and citrine and is used in healing negativity, aiding in weight loss, releasing addictions, and helping with focus. Of course, I can't guarantee all of this but it is fun to read about.
Thank you for looking.
