Purchased from the jewelry box estate a few months ago, here is a gorgeous Edwardian era diamond ring featuring a beautiful colored diamond in the center that resembles a light champagne color. I took this ring to a local professional jeweler who also does appraisals and has been in this business for 40 years. He provided the following information: "Ladies 14 karat two tone vintage diamond ring. The ring is a square top design with the corners facing north, south, east and west. There are diamonds on either side surrounding a round center diamond. The ring is set with 13 European cut diamonds, this includes the center stone. The center stone is a top light brown stone being SI2 clarity. The twelve white stones are estimated to be H color and ranging from VS2 to SI2 clarity. Center stone weighs estimated 1/2 carat and the total estimated carat weight of the twelve surrounding white stones is .75 or 3/4 carats giving a total carat weight for the ring at approximately 1.25 carats of European cut diamond. The ring weighs 2.4 grams and is a size 3-1/2. Estimated replacement cost is $1500.00."
This is a nice conservative appraisal but there are a couple of missing items I can fill in. The two tones of gold referred to in the appraisal is the 14kt yellow gold shank and the platinum setting on the top. Also, this ring is unmarked but was tested for 14kt gold which is not mentioned in the appraisal. I do feel the appraisal value for replacement is conservative since I know similar rings of this quality and era fetch closer to $2,000 and more but I feel this $1500 valuation is very fair and is an exceptionally good value for someone looking for a special antique wedding or anniversary ring. Also, I had a couple of diamond loving friends try it on and the first thing they did was put it on their pinky fingers and it looked so great with their other diamonds on their hands. So even though it is on the small side, it does make a fantastic pinky ring. Nevertheless, the size may be problematic for some but I was reassured it could be re-sized. I have access to a very good jeweler who does re-sizing and I can go over the cost at the time of purchase.
Thank you for looking and let me know if you have any questions.
