Standard Churn Company (SCC) of Wapakoneta, Ohio, was established in 1889 by F.H. and R.C. Haman and S.A. Hoskins. Even though SCC is not as widely known as other brands of churns, by the early 1900s, they were manufacturing 40,000 churns per year. With its Art Deco style housing that covers the gears, this 12 ½” tall (to the top of the crank mechanism) is probably from the 1920s. The 9 ½” tall glass jar has five raised vertical lines on each rounded corner, with the bottom measuring 6 ½” square and the mouth measuring 5” in diameter. The jar, which is called tulip shape, is marked on the bottom: SCC and Pat. App. For; on the front side it is marked where the “Fill Line” is for pouring in the cream. One side of the jar has a raised the number 4, indicating that this is a 4-quart churn. The jar is in excellent antique condition with no cracks or chips; there are wear marks on the bottom and the glass does have some scratches. The churning mechanism turns freely and is clean; there is discoloration and some corrosion on the metal and some loss of red enamel on the housing. The turning arm has a red wooden handle on it, and there is the number 1031 impressed into the metal. The wooden paddles or dasher are clean with no stains. There are metal marks at the mouth of the jar where the lid screws int the jar. It is a wonderful piece and would look great in a country kitchen. It is very substantial, weighing 5 lbs. 12 oz. and will require a large box for shipping.

This would be a wonderful addition to your primitive or farm/country collection. Please contact us if you have any questions.
