Born in 1884 in Chicago, Palenske’s first sketches were of his father’s horses which he rode and studied when he was a youth. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago. For many years Brown & Bigelow had Palenske work on an exclusive basis in the advertising specialty market and they also offered a number of his original etchings. The original drypoint of Triple Crown winner, Gallant Fox by R. H. Palenske has been reproduced in Talio-crome. Gallant Fox won the Triple Crown in 1930, only the second horse at the time to accomplish such a feat. This13” x 17” print was framed many years ago as the label from the House of Frames in Houston had six-digit phone number. The image of the horse is 7 ½” x 9”. The print is in excellent condition with no stains, tears or foxing.
