What a wonderful antique miniature village set. The features of each figure is pressed into wood and then painted to highlight the features. Even though there is loss of paint, you can see that a man is walking with a cane and woman is carrying a pitcher as she walks. The set consists of 6 women, 3 men, a horse, a sheep, goat, dog, rabbit, bear, and a cottage, for a total of 16 pieces. The tallest figures, the people, stand 2 7/8” tall. Each figure is supported with a rectangular green wood stand, with the exception of the rabbit; he’s lost his stand, but the tiny dowel ends are still on his feet and he could be fitted to a stand made from a paint stirrer or other thin piece of wood. From the research I’ve done, I feel safe in saying that they are German and probably date to the late 1800s. Except for the loss of paint and the rabbit’s stand, are in wonderful condition. All feet, tails, and heads are still attached to their appropriate bodies.
