Webster Brothers Ltd. of London, Ontario, Canada produced diecast toys from 1940-50 under the brand Londontoy. They made cars, buses, airplanes, trucks, and trains. In our research we were able to find many examples of all the vehicles except for the trains. The locomotive we have for sale is only the third one we’ve been able to find. These resembled Tootsie Toys diecast toys, and many confuse them. The locomotive is 4” long, 7/8” wide, and 1 ¼” at its tallest. The underside of the train is open and is marked Londontoy on one side and Made in Canada on the other; in the middle the model number is marked T1. It has lost some paint and the wheels, which isn’t a surprise since many of the wheels were made of pressed paper. The paper wheels didn’t stand up to rough play very well! Considering this toy’s age, it is in very good condition.
This set would be a wonderful addition to your vintage train collection. Please contact us if you have any questions.
