Walt Disney premiered the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in late 1937, and soon after, lots of dolls, puppets, figurines, etc. were made of Snow White and her seven little friends. This charming composition head is of Dopey; it was either originally on a hand puppet or a cloth-bodied doll that were made in 1938. Various makers manufactured the many toys and figures that came out. This 4” tall head (not counting the tip of his cap) is not marked, but I found close examples that were made by Knickerbocker. The composition is cracked and his cap shows 80 years of aging, but his little face is still just as cute and full of expression as it did when it was new.
This would be a darling to make a cloth body for it or attach clothing to it make a hand puppet, or the face would look cute sitting on a shelf with other collectibles. Please contact us if you have any questions.
