Swan-Myers Company, Pharmaceutical and Biological Laboratories, was established in 1909 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Apparently, they were on the cutting edge in their research and production of medicines, because the larger Abbotts Laboratories of Chicago absorbed them into their company in 1931. So this ointment cabinet is a somewhat rare item, since Swan-Myers was only in business for 22 years. This 9 ½” tall, 7 3/8” wide, and 3 7/8” deep wooden cabinet that looks more like a doll cabinet than one holding medicine, has three drawers at the bottom. Each drawer contains a cardboard listing of the eye ointments available for dispensing. After lots of research, I still don’t know what the cute scalloped-edge shelves on the top are for – perhaps to display a few tubes of the various ointments. The cabinet is made of a light weight, dark-stained wood. There are little pad feet on the bottom. It is in excellent condition when you consider its age and that it was used for commercial purposes.
