This warm, earth-tone pottery is truly a statement piece. Standing 11 5/8” and weighing almost 3 lbs., it can stand alone or mix well with other pieces. As the clay was turned, nice shades of tan, gray-green and rusty browns were worked for an interesting, yet understated effect. The glaze has a sheen to it, but the piece also has subtle texture. Placed on the front are Tidmore’s signature mark - “owl eyes” as I call them. It also bears a circular mark close to the bottom of the vase. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The vase, by design is not perfectly symmetrical. Part of Tidmore's style is to make is pieces a little "off", which makes for unique and interesting pieces.

Shane Tidmore grew up in Wichita Falls, TX, and received both a BA and MFA in ceramics and painting from the University of North Texas. He studied and worked in Asian ceramics for 4 years in South Korea and Japan, and is known for using a wood fired kiln, which is much more unpredictable than kilns with a steady heat supply. He lives in Houston and has lectured on Asian ceramics at the official residence of the Japanese Consulate in Houston. He also had pieces in the Leonard and Allison Shurz $250,000 pottery collection sale in what proved to be England’s largest ceramics estate sale.
