The Vietri region of the Amalfi coast of Italy has been the site of pottery making since the 15th century; so these rustic hard to find LS Lamas hand-thrown plates are part of a long tradition. Made from fired terra cotta, it is hand decorated with a pig standing in front of a pool of water over a tan base with camel colored dots at the rim. There are birds flying overhead. On the back of the 8” plate you can see some imperfections from the hand worked clay, but that is part of its appeal. It is in excellent, hand-crafted condition with no cracks, chips, or crazing. If used for eating, these should not be put in the dishwasher. It is wonderful for a wall hanging or sitting on a shelf.
