This little upright player piano serves a dual purpose – it would make a wonderful doll or dollhouse accessory, but it also is a music box. The music box is located behind the two doors above the keyboard; it plays part of African American composer Scott Joplin’s 1902 composition, “The Entertainer”; many remember this song from the 1970s movie “The Sting.” What’s even more fun is that Scott Joplin probably played a lot of his music on an upright piano. The wooden piano measures 5” wide, 4” tall, and 2 ½” at its deepest point. It is in very good vintage condition. The bench is included with the piano. The paper keyboard is discolored, and is put on backward – the black keys should be against the back of the keyboard, not at the front – but that just adds to the cute factor. There is a very thin shrinkage crack in the wood above the keyboard, but it doesn’t harm the integrity or the stability of the piece. There are a few nicks or rubs in the wood, but nothing serious. The music box still plays and winds very easily. On the back, there is a paper tag that states: Made in Taiwan Republic of China, which dates this probably from the 1960s or early 1970s before relations were opened with China. Taiwan pretty much dropped “Republic of China” as part of its name after China and the West developed trade and travel relations.
This would make a darling addition to your music box collection or to display with other doll or dollhouse items. Please contact us if you have any questions.
