These four enamelware dinner plates and trays (all in one) are a fabulous and colorful piece of old Hollywood movie history. Patented in 1941, these plates were used to feed movies stars, extras, crew and camera operators while shooting films on the studio lot. From research, we know that they came in red, green, blue, and yellow. We are offering for sale a set of two 13 ¼” red and two green plates. The enamel is still very shiny and bright, even though there is a residue in areas on each plate – I tried to capture in a photo, but couldn’t. The backside of each is black enamel and marked: John’s Service Plate, Made in Hollywood, Calif., Patent No. 127996, July 1941. There is a little loss of enamel on the edges of the plates, but you have to really look for it to see. These plates are very substantial, each one weighs 1 lb. 8 oz.
These are so much fun! We are selling these as a set of four (4).
