Hazel Atlas Glass Company, maker of machine molded glass in Wheeling, West Virginia, was founded in 1902 in Washington, Pennsylvania when four companies merged creating fifteen plants. From the 1920s – 1940s large quantities of depression pressed glass were made in a variety of patterns. They were the third largest producers of glass containers with almost ten percent of the market when they became a subsidiary of Continental Can Co in 1957. By 1964 ten of the twelve plants were sold to Brockway Glass. It is not known if the remaining two plants used the Hazel Atlas trademark after that year.

This 7” long clear glass butter dish with lid is a great example of the quality of Hazel Atlas glass. The ivy pattern is embossed on the top of the lid and also in the bottom dish. It is a substantial piece, weighing 14 oz. It is 2 ¾” wide and 1 7/8” tall. The dish is marked with the A nestled under the H. It is in excellent condition with no chips. There is a little wear on the bottom from years of sliding the dish in and out of the refrigerator.

This would be a wonderful addition to your depression glass collection or to use every day. Please contact us if you have any questions.
