What a darling way to entice donors to give to the Orphan’s Fund! This donation box, hand made out of very sturdy metal and designed to look like a country school house, was sponsored by the Ohio IOOF State Secretaries Association to raise money for an orphanage. The sign on each side of the roof tells donors what the money is going for; it is typed (not printed from a computer) on very old, yellowed paper; so this piece is quite old! The slot for the money is at the peak of the roof. Apparently, the bottom has to be unscrewed from the box to get the funds out, because the roof has been welded to the body of the building. The 11” x 6 3/8” x 8 ¾” piece has been hand painted and must have been primed underneath, because there isn’t any rust or corrosion on the sheet metal. Not only is this piece absolutely precious, but it is a bit of history, when organizations used to take on projects like supporting orphans – before donations could be made online! The bank is quite heavy, weight 5 ½ lbs.
This would be darling addition to your folk art collection. Please contact us if you have any questions.
